SYNERGY Festival – The New Energy Triangle: Mong Tong × LUDU × NAXS FUTURE
Drawing on themes from folk legends to extraterrestrial life, the work carries a dense, supernatural and mysterious tone. Following the lineage of rock music but reimagined through synthesizers as new instruments, and infused with the experimental creativity of a new media art collective, it forms a “superstition music” — a new framework of electronic sound intertwined with futuristic visual aesthetics to expand the possibilities of audiovisual experience.
Weaving together sub-themes of ancient astrology, mysticism, ritual, faith, catastrophe, and civilization, the piece flows through a dark and ambiguous sensory landscape. It subtly reflects humanity’s continual transformation through disasters and pandemics, and our intertwined regeneration with both nature and technology.
Mong Tong
Brothers Hom Yu and Jiun Chi also play in Prairie WWWW (落差草原 WWWW) and Dope Purple. They both returned to Taipei in 2017 after finishing their studies and before long began to explore their mutual obsession for Taiwanese occult-inspired art and vintage superstitious imagery, channeling it through music. Mong Tong means many things in Chinese, but the translation they choose to fit their music is “the east-side of dreams”.
LUDU
LUDU is the side project of Lu Jiachi (盧家齊) of Scattered Purgatory 破地獄 and Jon Du (杜澤威) of Forests. They mostly play around with synthesizers.
